Red Eléctrica and the Tenerife Island Council (Cabildo) have renewed their agreement for the prevention and reduction of forest fire risks for a further four years, until 2029, aiming to efficiently manage and conserve the exceptional forest masses on the island of Tenerife.
This agreement, which forms part of the framework agreement signed between the Island Council and the Redeia subsidiary responsible for system operation and electricity transmission, sets out the conditions for collaboration on forest fire prevention and firefighting near Red Eléctrica's facilities on the island of Tenerife. It also covers any necessary public awareness and prevention initiatives.
Through this accord, both parties establish the coordination methods and guidelines to carry out vegetation management under power lines, as well as any dissemination actions and activities for fire prevention that are deemed necessary, and participate in joint development, innovation, and awareness projects. All of these measures remain closely tied to the fight against forest fires, serving the mutual interests of both parties.
Specifically, the agreement, to which Redeia has allocated €80,000 (€20,000 annually), includes the provision of equipment and training courses for prevention and firefighting teams; the execution of preventive felling, pruning, or clearing works; the establishment of security perimeters; and various environmental education initiatives.
The collaboration with the Tenerife administration is part of Redeia's Comprehensive Impact Strategy, which promotes environmental and social initiatives that deliver a positive impact on the region and generate shared value alongside stakeholders where Red Eléctrica deploys its infrastructure.
