The demand for electrical energy grew 1.5% in March

The demand for electrical energy on the Spanish peninsula in the month of March is estimated at 21,403 GWh, a value 1.5% higher than that registered in the same month last year. After factoring in the seasonal and working patterns, electrical energy demand on the peninsula grew 2.1% with regard to March 2015.

In the first quarter of the year, demand for electrical energy on the Spanish peninsula is estimated at 63,777 GWh, down 1.4% on the same period in 2015. After having factored in the seasonal and working patterns, demand for electrical energy was 0.7% lower than in the same period last year.

Generation coming from wind power in March totaled 5,440 GWh, a value 11.8% higher than the same period last year, and represented 25.3% of total production.

In the month of March, using provisional data available at 31 March, generation coming from renewable energy sources represented 51.3% of production.

75.3% of electricity generation during the month was obtained using technologies which produce zero CO2 emissions.
