Redeia and the Campo de Criptana Town Council drive savings of up to €300,000 for the municipality by installing solar panels

Redeia – Red Eléctrica's parent company – and the Campo de Criptana Town Council have signed a collaboration agreement to boost energy efficiency in the municipality by installing self-consumption solar panels at the municipal heated swimming pool.

This morning, the town's Mayor, Santiago Lázaro, and Redeia's regional manager, Patricia Crego, inaugurated the newly completed solar facilities, which are now serving the residents of Campo de Criptana.

Lázaro highlighted that “for the Campo de Criptana Town Council, this is a strategic investment that is enabling us to be more efficient in our energy expenditure and, consequently, in the electricity bill of a facility like the heated swimming pool, which entails significant maintenance costs.” 

During these spring months, the installed capacity is already generating more than half the electrical energy required for a facility that is also connected to the Domingo Miras primary school and the Escuela de Catadores (Wine Tasting School). For her part, Redeia's regional manager reaffirmed “Red Eléctrica's commitment to the economic and social development of its surrounding communities, driven by the determination to act as an agent of change to generate a positive and lasting impact on the society of which it is a part.”

The agreement includes a contribution of nearly €40,000 from Red Eléctrica to carry out this initiative, which will save the municipal budget over €12,000 annually. This adds up to more than €300,000 in total savings over the lifespan of the solar panels. Furthermore, it will prevent the emission of 270 tonnes of CO₂, helping to improve citizens' quality of life and achieve the goals of the Ecological Transition.

Commitment to local communities

The agreement falls under Redeia's Comprehensive Impact Strategy, which is geared towards generating shared value in the local communities where it develops its infrastructure. In this instance, the collaboration is tied to the Manzanares–Manchega power line currently being developed by Red Eléctrica. This project is included in the current Electricity Transmission Grid Plan and will help strengthen the electricity system and facilitate the integration of renewable energies.

Through this agreement, Redeia reaffirms its commitment to a fair energy transition, sustainable development, and improving the quality of life for people in the communities where it operates.
