We are a global operator of essential infrastructure
Red Eléctrica de España (REE) this morning has held at its headquarters, an informative session of good practices, entitled ‘Towards a sustainable energy future based on business excellence’, organised by the Club Excelencia en Gestión (CEG) and the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM).The Chairman of REE Jose Folgado, the Secretary-General of the CEG, Juan Liquete, and the Senior Manager of the EFQM, Gianluca Mulé, took part in the opening session.
In his speech, José Folgado highlighted that excellence in management is reaffirmed as a priority strategy of the Company and explained that the contribution of Red Eléctrica to a more sustainable energy future is focused on two main areas: the development of a meshed and robust transmission grid that is integrated into the European electricity system, for which it is vital that international connections be strengthened, and the integration of renewable energy into the electricity system with adequate levels of quality and safety. In this regard, he referred to the European target of reaching a 15% exchange capacity of the installed electricity capacity of each Member State by 2030, and also mentioned the CECRE (the Control Centre of Renewable Energies) a pioneering initiative world-wide.
The Chairman thanked the CEG and EFQM, organisations that he defined as ‘excellence in excellence’, for their work so that companies, such as Red Eléctrica, may work towards becoming more sustainable and competitive, advancing along the path towards excellence in the performance of their activity.
Mr. Folgado recalled that Red Eléctrica is present in the main sustainability indexes (Dow Jones Sustainability Index, FTSE4Good) and since 2003, it has held the European Seal of Excellence 500+ that accredits it as one of the most advanced companies in the implementation of an efficient and sustainable management model.
These recognitions, together with the EFQM European Award for Business Excellence which it won in 2011 in the category ‘Taking responsibility for a sustainable future’, reflect the commitment of Red Eléctrica towards sustainability, being the quest for excellence and accountability in the performance of its activities a priority for the Company.
During the session, three good practices that are part of the business excellence of the Company were presented First, Miguel Duvison, Deputy General Manager of System Operation & Electricity Markets Division, talked about how to face the challenges that need to be addressed in the coming years in order to achieve an efficient management of the Spanish electricity system.
Juan Majada, Director of Human Resources, presented the new model of a healthy company, which sets out the general principles and guidelines for managing the promotion and protection of health, safety and well-being of persons employed, including the sustainability of the job environment.
Rafael García de Diego, General Counsel and Secretary of the Board of Directors, spoke about the implementation of the best international principles and practices through transparent and independent management, dialogue and a permanent commitment to shareholders, which is a strategic element to ensure the good governance of Red Eléctrica and of key importance to strengthen the trust between the Company and its shareholders and other interest groups.
