Electricity consumption of large companies grew 3.2% in January

The electricity consumption of large and medium-sized companies grew 3.2% in January compared with the same month the previous year, according to data from the Red Eléctrica Index (IRE). Broken down by sector, industrial consumption increased 5% and the services sector by 0.1%. The effects of seasonal and working patterns were factored in when calculating this data.

According to the IRE, in the last twelve months, the electricity consumption of these companies, once the effects of seasonal and working patterns were factored in, has increased by 3.2% compared to the same period last year. By sector, industrial consumption rose by 4.7% and the services sector fell by 1.2%.

Compared to January 2014, the five activities with the highest electricity consumption were the metallurgy industry with an increase of 5.2%, the manufacturing industry for other non-metallic mineral products with an increase of 4.6%, however the paper industry fell 8.4%, the chemical industry decreased 4.6% and the food industry dropped 0.6%.

Similarly, activities that contributed most to the growth in the consumption of large companies have been: the metallurgy industry with an increase of 5.2%, the manufacturing of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (15.5%), overland and underground piped transport (21.6%), the manufacturing of other non-metallic mineral products (4.6%) and the manufacturing of rubber and plastic products (4.7%).
