Infrastructures necessary for the strengthening of the transmission grid
The 400 kilovolt (kV) Mezquita-Morella and Mudéjar-Morella power transmission lines are contained within the ‘Planning of the Electricity and Gas sectors 2008-2016’ and are included in the annual programme of the transmission grid facilities approved by the Ministry of Industry in December 2012.
These infrastructures are necessary to strengthen the transmission grid meshing, and as a result, improve the security and quality of the electricity supply of the peninsular electricity system as a whole and in the province of Castellón.
For the development of these projects, which will represent an investment of 27.7 million euros in the province of Castellón, Red Eléctrica de España has reached agreements with the vast majority of private owners and with all local authorities.
The Mezquita-Morella and Mudéjar-Morella axes are double circuit 400 kV lines. The lines are compacted into a single quadruple circuit in the stretch of line that runs through the region of Els Ports, in order to minimise the environmental impact on the territory.
The facilities have been granted all the pertinent authorizations and the construction work began in February 2015.
