‘A highway behind the wall socket’ Exhibition in Mérida

‘A highway behind the wall socket’ is an interactive exhibition where visitors can, on the one hand, discover the role that Red Eléctrica plays in the Spanish electricity system and the activity it carries out, and on the other hand, learn about the most noteworthy projects the Company undertakes in the autonomous community in which the exhibition is on show.

In this edition of the travelling exhibition, held in Mérida, new content modules were added, such as the ‘Selfie with a spark’ or the ‘Tweetwall’, which allow the publication of self-portraits and messages from visitors regarding their activities during the exhibition. Two new services that are highly interactive and designed particularly for the younger audience.

In addition, Red Eléctrica started up its shuttle bus service to provide transport for school students visiting the exhibition.

From 2010 to 2020 the exhibition has toured and been exhibited at the following museums: Science Museum of Granada, Science Museum of Logroño (Casa de las Ciencias), Science Museum of Valladolid, Elder Museum of Science and Technology in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Science Museum of Seville (Casa de la Ciencia), Museu de la Ciència i de la Tècnica de Catalunya, Casal Solleric in Palma de Mallorca, Museu de les Ciències in Valencia and Palexco in A Coruña.

Results

Over 300,000 people have visited the exhibition.

Dissemination of information to visitors on how the Spanish electricity system works and on the most relevant Red Eléctrica projects. In addition, at the end of the tour, the visitor becomes aware that energy efficiency is something in which everyone plays an important role.

The exhibition has been chosen by the Directorate-General for Energy of the European Commission as one of the five best practices of European TSO's to improve the understanding of the need to develop electricity transmission facilities, and as such foster their social acceptance.
