Récord eólico de cobertura de demanda
Demand for electrical energy falls 1.9% in September

The demand for electrical energy on the Spanish peninsula in the month of September, after having factored in the seasonal and working patterns, fell 1.9% with respect to the same month last year. Gross demand was 19,892 GWh, 5% lower than that registered in September 2011. This difference is due to this month having an additional weekend and because temperatures were especially high.

In the first nine months of the year, after having factored in the seasonal and working patterns, consumption was 1.5% below that registered last year. Gross electricity demand in this period was 191,031 GWh, 0.6% less than the same period 2011.

New wind power record
This month a new wind energy share record in demand coverage was established when on the morning of 24 September, at 3:03 am, 64.25% of the peninsular demand (20,677 MW) was covered by means of this generation (13,285 MW), surpassing the previous maximum of 61.06% recorded on 19 April this year, at 1:37 am.

In September, wind power production reached 3,465 GWh an increase of 69.7% compared with the same period last year, and represented 18% of the total production.

In September the generation originating from renewable energy sources represented 30% of the total production, a figure higher than that recorded in September 2011, which was 22.3%.

Also, 53.1% of electricity generation during the month was obtained using technologies which produce zero CO2 emissions.
