The demand for electrical energy on the Spanish peninsula in the month of January, after having factored in the seasonal and working patterns, dropped 4.3% with respect to the same month last year. Gross demand was 22,474 GWh, 2.8% lower than that registered in January 2012.

New wind power maximum
In January, wind power has reached its maximum participation in the monthly power generation as it has produced 27.3% of the total, with 6,329 GWh. This value represents an increase of 73.5% with respect to the same period last year.
Generation originating from renewable energy sources represented 44% of the total production, which also establishes a historical maximum.
In addition, on 16 January, a new all-time high of daily wind energy generation in the Spanish peninsular system was reached, with a value of 345,011 MWh. The new all-time high is an increase of 3% on the previous one registered April 18, 2012, with 334,850 MWh.
61.7% of electricity generation during the month was obtained using technologies which produce zero CO2 emissions.
