- The new line was constructed thanks to the consensus reached with municipalities and landowners and has represented an investment of 66 million euros
Red Eléctrica de España (REE) has completed, in the record time of eighteen months, the construction works of the Bescanó-Santa Llogaia 400 kilovolts (kV) line, which will come into service in the first week of October. The new line, which represents an investment of 66 million euros, enables supply capacity to be increased and improved in the Girona region, especially in the capital and in the central area of the Costa Brava, and involves the supply of energy for the high speed train (AVE) through the substation built by ADIF in Santa Llogaia, and also for the municipality of Alt Empordà. Similarly, the project enables the linking up to the Spain-France electricity interconnection, via the Santa Llogaia converter station.
The project was carried out with the general consent of all the municipalities through which the route of the line passes, a total of 13, and with the agreement of the majority of landowners, numbering over 400. Specifically, one of the points that facilitated this consensus was the environmental measures included as part of the new line, noteworthy amongst which was the compaction of the line with the 220 kV line between Bescanó and Sant Julià de Ramis and the 132 kV line between Sant Julià de Ramis and Santa Llogaia, which in practice will involve the dismantling of more than one hundred towers of those lines.
The Bescanó-Santa Llogaia line is 44 kilometres in length and consists of 110 towers. The project has two substations, one in the administrative permitting stage in Sant Julià de Ramis and another in Santa Llogaia which is fully completed. The latter is located in a switchyard facility which also includes the converter station for the electricity interconnection with France, which is promoted by INELFE; a mixed-capital corporation jointly-owned in equal shares by REE and RTE.
The investment of 66 million euros in this new line, along with the initial stretch between Sentmenat and Bescanó and the interconnection between France and Spain, involves a total investment of nearly 850 million euros.
