Demand for electrical energy increases 1.5% in August

The demand for electrical energy on the Spanish peninsula in the month of August is estimated at 21,780 GWh, a value 1.5% higher than that registered in the same month last year. After factoring in the seasonal and working patterns, electrical energy demand on the peninsula increased 1.6% compared to August 2016.

In the first eight months of the year, the demand for electricity on the Spanish Peninsula is estimated at 169,205 GWh, a value 1.1% higher than in the same period in 2016. After factoring in the seasonal and working patterns, demand for electricity increased 1.4% compared to the same period the previous year.

Generation coming from wind power reached 3,275 GWh in August, a value 9.1% lower than the same month last year, and represented 16.2% of total production.

In the month of August, using data available as at 31 August, it is estimated that 31% of total production came from renewable energy sources.

55.9% of electricity generation during the month was obtained using technologies which produce zero CO2 emissions.
