Red Eléctrica contributes to the dissemination of knowledge regarding the functioning of the electricity system by encouraging participation in conferences and training/informative sessions.

Red Eléctrica took part in the talk “The Challenges of Energy Transition: A Changing Paradigm” in February 2019, which was organized by the Rafael del Pino Foundation.

The session included the talk by the vice-chairwoman of the CNMC, the chairman of the latest Expert Committee on Energy Transition Scenarios and the Chairman of Red Eléctrica, Jordi Sevilla.

In their contributions, the participants emphasised that planning is a key topic in the context of energy transition and explained that the goals set out by the European Union respond to the need to advance towards a more efficient and sustainable model of energy and one which contributes to the fight against climate change.

Red Eléctrica contributes to the dissemination of knowledge regarding the functioning of the electricity system by encouraging participation in conferences and training/informative sessions.

In June 2019, Red Eléctrica took part in the EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), an initiative organized in Brussels by the European Commission through the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (EASME) for the purpose of promoting energy saving initiatives and advancing towards the use of renewable technologies to obtain clean, safe and efficient energy.

Red Eléctrica was part of the session on “Delivering Clean Energy on EU Islands”, in which the Director of Operations for the Canary Islands explained the opportunities and challenges raised by energy transition in the electricity systems of the islands.

Informative sessions on energy

Red Eléctrica contributes to the dissemination of knowledge regarding the functioning of the electricity system by encouraging participation in conferences and training/informative sessions.

Red Eléctrica worked with the Madrid Association of Industrial Engineers and Official School of Industrial Engineers of Madrid to hold the second edition of the Ibero-American engineering and technology congress (CIBITEC19), held at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid on 9 and 10 May.

The sessions took place under the title “The Digitalisation of Industry” and brought together representatives from the business, academic, scientific, technical and institutional sectors to share their experiences in applying digital techniques.

The Secretary of State for Energy, José Domínguez was present, as was the chairman of Red Eléctrica, Jordi Sevilla, the General Manager of System Operations Division, Miguel Duvison and the chairman of Siemens, Miguel Ángel López, among others.

Red Eléctrica also took part in the first edition of these sessions, in 2017, that objective of which is to improve the productivity and competitiveness of the economy through innovation, the application of digitalisation across all sectors and to contribute to the growth of engineering in Iberian America.

Training sessions regarding fire prevention and safety in high voltage installations.

Red Eléctrica contributes to the training of the State Law Enforcement Agencies, and other public service personnel, in matters regarding safety in electricity facilities and fire prevention by organising specific training sessions.

Since 2013, Red Eléctrica collaborates with the Military Emergency Unit (UME - Unidad Militar de Emergencias) on various activities to train UME personnel through practice sessions in electricity facilities and via emergency-simulation drills.

This collaboration facilitates the coordination between both entities and enables a better knowledge of UME’s personnel in the event the UME needs to act in emergency situations that affect the electricity transmission grid.

Training sessions regarding fire prevention and safety in high voltage installations.

Red Eléctrica contributes to the training of the State Law Enforcement Agencies, and other public service personnel, in matters regarding safety in electricity facilities and fire prevention by organising specific training sessions.

In 2019, Red Eléctrica held the sixth edition of technical sessions in as many years under the title of “The fires of the next decade” which centred on the prevention of forest fires. It was organized by the Pau Costa Foundation in collaboration with the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha.

These sessions –which were due to take place on 1 and 2 April 2020 in Toledo– were postponed until a new date by the crisis caused by COVID-19.

Besides this, as part of the Red Eléctrica Group’s commitment to protect nature and conserve the environment, the company collaborated with the Pau Costa Foundation in 2020 to launch an educational mini-series of four episodes for children aged 5 to 10 to learn from two charming characters, Mefitú and Jara, how to prevent and protect themselves from forest fires.

Training sessions regarding fire prevention and safety in high voltage installations.

Red Eléctrica contributes to training State Safety Forces and Brigades, and members of other public services on safety matters in electrical installations and fire prevention by organising specific sessions.

Red Eléctrica collaborated in 2019 with the environmental department of the Island Government of La Palma to promote training sessions for its personnel in the areas of research and safety in the extinction of forest fires, as part of its annual programme of actions with the Environmental and Emergency Service of the Government of La Palma.

More than 140 workers took part in the training sessions held in the last fortnight of September and throughout October. They were trained in advanced intervention techniques and protocols along with courses about the electrical lines and bird life and skills development.

The training team was made up of an expert in safety in forest fires and a psychologist to reinforce their knowledge, attitudes and skills for teamwork and stress management

Training sessions regarding fire prevention and safety in high voltage installations.

Red Eléctrica contributes to the training of the State Law Enforcement Agencies, and other public service personnel, in matters regarding safety in electricity facilities and fire prevention by organising specific training sessions. Since 2013, more than 4,200 participants have attended these training sessions.

In 2019, Red Eléctrica collaborated with the environmental department of the Regional Government of Aragon to promote training sessions on safety in extinction operations in forest fires.

More than 40 Nature Protection Agents from Aragon took part in a training programme with the objective of learning advanced intervention techniques and protocols and fire extinction.

Red Eléctrica contributes to training State Safety Forces and Brigades, and members of other public services on safety matters in electrical installations and fire prevention by organising specific sessions.

Red Eléctrica has helped in the training of the state police and security forces in fire prevention and coordination of extinction operations for fires in the vicinity of electricity facilities since 2013, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Climate Emergency and Ecological Transition, and the Valencian Safety and Emergency Response Agency of the Regional Government of Valencia.

TIn 2019, the company proposed a series of training sessions for high-voltage electricity facilities and the safety measures to take in the case of forest fires or any emergency that may arise in the vicinity of these facilities.

Training sessions regarding fire prevention and safety in high voltage installations.

Red Eléctrica contributes to the training of the State Law Enforcement Agencies, and other public service personnel, in matters regarding safety in electricity facilities and fire prevention by organising specific training sessions.

Red Eléctrica has been collaborating since 2013 with the Regional Government of Castilla y León to organize training sessions for environmental and forest agents of this autonomous community, to prevent and fight against forest fires associated with interconnection cables and electricity facilities.

On 21 February 2020, the company took part in the presentation of the school awareness campaign “Yo me enchufo a la prevención de incendios forestales” [I am plugged into the prevention of forest fires], which was held in the Fire Room, an educational facility installed in the Fire Defence Centre, in León.

The goals of the educational programme are focused on raising awareness and concern about the value of woodland and sustainable forest management, encouraging active social involvement in the prevention of forest fires.

Visits to transmission grid facilities

Programme for the dissemination of knowledge regarding Red Eléctrica’s management and operation of the Spanish electricity system.

Red Eléctrica has an annual programme of activities geared towards conveying knowledge and experience in the operation of the national electricity system and the management of the power transmission grid, with particular emphasis on the integration of renewable energies.

Visits to transmission grid facilities promote knowledge and dissemination of the Spanish electricity system, its operation, needs, challenges and rational use of energy. These visits complement the theoretical classes previously given by Red Eléctrica’s personnel.

In 2019, 819 people visited these facilities, belonging to Red Eléctrica, with a total of 43 visits throughout Spain.
