The company has a Red Eléctrica’s Healthy Workplace Management Model, setting out a set of general management principles and guidelines designed to promote and protect the health, safety and wellbeing of its employees and the sustainability of the work environment.
We have in place a management model certified in accordance with OHSAS 18001.
Our healthy workplace model revolves around four main principles:
- Physical work environment: Provide the necessary means to perform the tasks associated to the job under the best health and safety conditions.
- Health resources: Provide the workforce with tools to improve their state of physical and mental health, contributing to their well-being and quality of life.
- Psychosocial work environment: Implement work management organisation tools and resources that promote the physical and psychosocial well-being of employees.
- Community involvement: Actions carried out by the Company that can impact on the improvement of the health and well-being of their employees’families and the communities in which their facilities are located.
Main axes of action
- Assessment, control and on-going monitoring of the risks associated to the activities of all work positions.
- Implementation of the necessary actions to correct or minimize the impact of risks identified in the assessments.
- Evaluation of the occupational health and safety elements in the selection of suppliers to ensure they have the necessary means and capacity to carry out the works in accordance with the established health and safety requirements.
- Application of the internal regulation on occupational health and safety to those people hired by other companies and that carry out their activities in Red Eléctrica’s facilities/installations.
- Certifications for certain activities classified as high risk.
- Drafting of occupational health and safety studies for those works where legislation demands an official project that details the tasks to be carried out, the associated risks, and the preventive measures to be implemented.
- Preparation of occupational health and safety plans and procedures by the contractors awarded the works and that address the preventive measures to be adopted in the execution of the works.
- Coordination of preventive actions with suppliers, collaborators and contractors as a key element for the efficient monitoring of occupational health and safety measures.
- Verification of the occupational health and safety conditions via three different and complementary figures that guarantee the correct inspection of preventive measures: occupational health and safety service technicians, occupational health and safety coordinators and work supervisors.
- Use of inspection models to guarantee the uniformity of information, independent of work location and/or company or person who carries out the inspection.
- Identification of risk situations or deviations from the preventive measures, and definition of the corresponding improvements.
- On-going development of occupational health and safety training and awareness programmes as key tools for prevention, especially in works exposed to electrical risk and works at height.
- Definition of specific training programmes for each job position based on the risks associated to the different activities.
- Inclusion of compulsory accreditation of staff regarding occupational health and safety matters.
- Wider range of Health and Safety training: first aid courses, theoretical and practical workshops to promote a healthy diet, physical activity, and to prevent psychosocial risks and musculoskeletal disorders.
- Collaboration of employees in the identification of improvement actions or situations of non-conformance with established processes.
- Periodic meetings of the Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
- Drafting of satisfaction studies regarding occupational health and safety management.
- Drafting and publication of the Occupational Health and Safety report.
- Dissemination campaigns aimed at raising awareness regarding the most significant aspects in prevention matters.
- Specific sessions and congresses relating to the healthy workplace arena.
- The approach to psychosocial risks is multidisciplinary.
- Achievement of a work environment and optimal work conditions to contribute to wellbeing.
- Inclusion, in the psychosocial risk prevention plan, of better tools for stress control, time management or team working management, through talent management.
- Integrated Work-Life Balance Plan: organisation of work, institutional culture and attitudes, values, beliefs and practices exhibited on a daily basis in the organisations, and impacting on the psychological and physical wellbeing of people.
- Mainly actions: non-school days, urban camps….
- Own in-house basic medical service at the Head Office and agreement with the prevention society FREMAP for the outlying work centres.
- Initial and periodic medical examinations, based on specific protocols according to the existing risks associated to each job position.
- Prevention, promotion and monitoring of health, not only work related, but also in general. Development of health-oriented campaigns for the prevention of the most common diseases: cancer, cardiovascular risk, psychosocial risks, obesity, smoking, etc...
- Identification of other risk factors that could affect the personal health of every individual.
- Study to assess the impact of ageing on the company which included an analysis of the demographic distribution of the workforce and which also, form a health and safety perspective, examined the job positions in which ageing could represent a greater risk to employees’ health.
